Yankees Take 2 in Rule 5 Draft

Posted: December 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

The Yankees selected two pitchers in the draft this morning.  First they selected 22 year old LHP Robert Fish out of the Angels system.  Fish is a power lefty who hits 95 and can miss bats (10.20K rate in 2010) with average secondary pitches. Could take a look at him if they don”t get a second lefty in free agency. Second they took 24 year old RHP Daniel Turpen from the Red Sox. Turpen has a low 90’s with sink that generates K and ground balls with average secondary pitches. He was one of the players that might have been player to be named later in the Adrian Gonzalez trade, so it’s a double jab at the Red Sox.

Dellin Betances, Brandon Laird and Ryan Pope have been added to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft.

The Yankees acquired 19-year-old pitcher Scottie Allen from the Diamondbacks in exchange for power-hitting first baseman Juan Miranda.

Allen, a right-hander who went 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA in 16 starts with Single-A South Bend, reeled off 14 consecutive shutout innings at one point this season. He struck out 79 in 78 innings while issuing 22 walks.

Banuelos     IP  2.0     H 3     R 1    ER  0     BB 0    K  3     HR 0     0.00

velocity was 94-95, with great command and a swing and miss change up. (game up run when the third baseman butchered an easy third out grounder)

Looks like the Jesus Montero Era will begin April 2011 A.D.

Even though BA will “reveal” their rankings tomorrow,  some magazine subscibers got the list early.

1. Montero
2. Sanchez
3. Betances
4. Banuelos
5. Brackman
6. Romine
7. Noesi
8. Nunez
9. Heathcott
10. Laird

Not a lot of surprises. Warren who put up very good numbers at double A might have been overlooked considering he was a college senior drafty. But all in all a good list.

Pitching depth FTW

Welcome to the Farm!!!!
